What camera should I get? Please please help!?
Hello!
I m 16 years old and I m into photography. my friend is an aspiring photographer and I realized I loved taking pictures when I was using her camera, she’s been through a few sony Digital camera’s and Is now using a Nikon D3000. I have to say its a reaally good camera and I love, its a perfect entry level DSLR.
But I m actually looking to buy my own camera now and I ve been doing some research, but I m still not quite sure. I ve read reviews and the Olympus PEN E- Pl1 sounds good but its does nt seem to have alot of manual options.
then there is the sony NX-10 Looked at some sample shots aswell its seems really good but the video mode is nt so great
I ve also looked at the samsung st550
I guess I m kind alooking for a digital camera thats rocking towards a DSLR
Please please give me some advice or suggestions on which on to get and if you have a better suggestion please name it and I ll read some reviews about thankyou!
I m trying to be really careful because my mum will only get me a camera once in like 3 years and I dont want to be dissapointed with it like I was with my earlier one!:)
thanks again!

Hey. Giving us a budget will certainly help a lot here. I’ve never heard of the Sony NX10, did you mean the Samsung NX10? Furthermore, you’re kind of all over the place right now. You’re comparing the Nikon D3000 with the Olympus Pen and with a Samsung ST550. They all belong to a different class of cameras.
If I was to give you a recommendation, I’d suggest that you slash the Samsung ST550 without giving a second thought. First of all, it is a compact point-and-shoot. It’s sensor is much smaller than the other two cameras, giving you worse image quality especially in low light. If i’m not mistaken, it also lacks any manual controls, which can be very limiting in certain situations where they would be useful.
After slashing the Samsung ST550, that basically leaves you with three other cameras, The Olympus Pen E-PL1, the Samsung NX-10, and the Nikon D3000. Image quality wise, these three cameras are all capable of superb results. The main difference comes from handling.
The Olympus Pen is the smallest of the three cameras, while the D3000 is the largest. However, this also reflects on the ease-of-use of the cameras. The Olympus Pen EPL1 has all the manual controls found on a dslr, but they are all hidden in the menu, which makes changing them on a hurry a pain in the butt. The D3000, on the other hand, is easier to use as there are more dials and buttons on the camera itself that allows you to change the settings faster and more efficiently.
Another thing to consider is the lenses and accessories that are available. Buying these interchangeable lens cameras is not really a one-time purchase, but rather as an investment as you purchase more lenses to use in the future. Currently, the D3000 has the most compatible lenses, while the Samsung NX10 has the least. Just something to consider about if you plan on buying more lenses in the future.
Furthermore, if you do plan on getting the D3000, you can only shoot via the viewfinder (the tunnel thing you put your eye against), as opposed to using the screen as you would with the other two options. This isn’t really a problem to most experienced users, but to beginners and to spectacle wearers used to their big LCD screens, it can be a dealbreaker. Just another thing to think about when making your purchase.
Anyways, hoped this helped. Have fun shooting with your new camera!
I will not recommend a certain brand but I will give you some tips to help you decide which camera is the best!
1. Choose a camera with a high resolution. Having a high resolution such as 11M means it can shoot more detailed picture and prevents pixelizing when printed. I mean when printed box box will appear instead of the picture.
2. Choose a camera with a handshake stabilizer. Choosing with that feature prevents blurred image caused by the hand shake.
3. Comfortability and Style. You know what I mean =D
4. Memory Capacity and the maximum memory capacity of memory card it can take.
5. Is it easy to transfer files. Like is the memory card being used on that device are never heard? Does the camera have USB port for easy transfer
6. Zooming utility… Choosing optical zooming is better than digital zooming picture enabled camera. Optical Zooming means it really zooms the object. Digital zooming just enlarges the image and might cause blurr.
I hope I helped though I didnt specifically indicated a camera model.
Hey,
You are confused (you’re new to this). The NX-10, Olympus E-PL1..this are not the DSLRs we’re used to. The D3000 is a good one, with a better sensor.
Here’s a post called ‘Buying a DSLR, what’s important, megapixels, features, brand, price, quality and which one to get. There are also Amazon links, here is the post – http://the-digital-photographer.blogspot.com/2009/03/which-dslr-to-buy.html
Good luck.
I would choose from either a Nikon or Canon. You would have a bigger choice of lenses in the future. Don’t go by what someone on here says to buy. That is only their opinion. You need to decide what will be the best one for YOU.
Go to a good camera store like Ritz or Wolf and look at the cameras in your price range. Ask lots of questions and handle the cameras. See which one has the easiest to understand controls. You will know the one for you when you hold it in your hands.
ALWAYS use the neck strap when using the camera. That will prevent you from coming on here later and wondering how you can fix your camera because you dropped it!
As for the viewfinder, that is the only way a DSLR should be used unless you have it on a tripod. If you hold a DSLR out in front of you to take a picture, people will laugh at you! Those cameras are way too heavy to use like a point & shoot. You will get only blurry pics unless you use the viewfinder.
And about a video feature on a DSLR? Let’s just say a DSLR is made to primarily take still pictures. If you want really good videos, buy a camcorder.
I nthink Nikon D3000 is the best choice. Buy Nikon D3000 10MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens with 8GB Card + EN-EL9a Battery + Nikon Gadget Bag + Nikon School DVDs + Accessory Kit, Price: $514.95 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002MXPOYK?ie=UTF8&tag=digitsy-marina-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B002MXPOYK
