DSLR Question– Canon EOS XSi or XS?

What would be a better entry level SLR? I know The XSi has more MP but I doubt that this will make much of a difference because I don’t plan on cropping much or blowing up photos. I’ve heard that both cameras have about the same amount of noise, except the XSi has spot metering. What’s spot metering, is it worth it, and would I just be better off getting the XS and a new lens? Does continuous shooting in raw matter if you’re seasoned with P&S but new to DSLR?

Thanks, any help [hopefully from the more experienced] would be appreciated.

I already have a Canon Rebel Ti 35mm SLR but am starting to shop around for a digital. I like Canon and am used to their format so I don’t really want to switch to Nikon but I might consider it.

I want something that has excellent photo quality (esp good color), has 100% Manual, P, Tv, Av, and Auto functions, is somewhat lighter/ more portable than most super-professional cameras, and not too expensive. I’m planning to buy used or refurbished so my target price is around 0. Though I am an amateur now, I would like a camera that I can keep growing with and possibly use professionally… probably something entry level but with a lot of options.

I was playing around with a friend’s Canon Rebel XT but it seems a little dated (4-5 years old, only 8 mp, have to use the viewfinder, color is so-so). It would be helpful if someone could explain pros/cons of Canon’s line of DSLRs (D vs Rebel) as well as comparable Nikon models and what features are actually useful and necessary.

Thanks
I’m not saying I don’t use the viewfinder, I’m saying that I don’t like that it’s your only option… maybe that’s standard for DSLRs, I don’t know.

I am looking for a digital SLR, not a point and shoot.

What kind of DSLR camera should I get?

I am going into a entry level college photography class and I need to get a camera. I am a college student so budget is a main issue. Also, thoughts on getting a refurbished camera would be very appreciated. These are the cameras that I have been looking at:

Canon Rebel XS 10.1MP Digital SLR Camera with EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens (Black)

Nikon D3000 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR Nikkor Zoom Lens

Canon EOS Rebel T3 12.2 MP CMOS Digital SLR with 18-55mm IS II Lens and EOS HD Movie Mode

Any information will be helpful, Thanks!
