Entry-level DSLR for airshows?
I plan to get a new DSLR camera, but I want to save as much money as I can. The Canon XS, Nikon D3000, and Sony A330 are all in the same family and cost about the same amount. But since I do quite a lot of aviation photography, I will also need a 70-300mm lens in addition to the kit one. I know Canon and Nikon have the best image quality, but I can’t pay 0 for the additional lens. So even though it comes third in the camera world, would it still be the smartest move to go with the Sony since it has image stabilization built in and I wouldn’t need to pay for it in the lens? Any insight about how big of a difference IS actually makes would be greatly appreciated.

No, it’s not a Canon, Nikon, or Sony, but the Pentax K-x is an excellent camera with superb image quality, and the added bonus of video capability and being less expensive than similar models from all of the above. My kit came with a 18 – 55mm and 55 – 300mm lens.
You can get the Nikon, and one of the earlier 70-300 lenses for a lot cheaper than the VR version. The G version is around 100.00 used, the ED version about 150.00. Tokina makes a 100-300 F4 lens that is also pretty good. F4 is better than F5.6 for later in the day.
Here’s a shot taken with the 100-300 F4 at an airshow:

I suggest not getting a DSLR. The whole point is to buy different stuff for it, on e of the first things being a lens. Try a fuji hs10. It has a 720mm lens. That means you can zoom in super far. A lens like that would cost $10,000 on a DSLR.
I really like this write! I enjoy it so much! thanks for give me a good reading moment!
