Canon 50D or Nikon D90?

I’m really undecided between the two.

For this question, I don’t want cost to be into consideration. I know the 50D is a bill more than the D90, but I really don’t care. Let’s not bring the price into generating an answer.

I’ve tried out both the 50D and D90, and they feel great in my hands! This will be my first dSLR camera, and I do want to get one of those mid-range Entry Level/Professional cameras. I love photography.

Looking at the specs, the D90 seems to be slightly better, but the 50D outclasses in some. They really seem to be at the same level. I also know that the D90 has video capabilities… this is also another thing about the discussion that I want left out of consideration. I care about the camera, not about the video.

So… let’s just say the 50D and D90 were both the same price, didn’t have video capability… which one would you suggest I get? Which one would pay off in the long run? Which important features out class each other? Which one takes the best pics (although that will be a tough one to answer, because I tried them out, and both love their quality, can’t tell any difference!)?

Thank you in advance!!!

Which entry level DSLR?

Hi,

Earlier I’ve posted many questions here. I’m an amateur-hobbyist photographer wishing to become an enthusiast. My understanding of these three terms islike this:

Amateur: Shooting an average of 10 rolls per month with a manual SLR and 2-3 lens combo

Hobbyist: Sending some of the pics to national and state level competitions (won a couple of titles in India)

Enthusiast: Would like to spend a percentage of dedicated time per month towards photography (but not making a livelihood out of it as a professional photographer)

I’ve used Fully Manual SLRs viz. Pentax K1000, K2000 etc. Later tried various point and shoot digital cameras like Nikon P80 and various Sony cybsershots. Now I want to step into the world of Digital SLRs and I’m not able to make up my decision. I need you people’s advise which is technical and logical.

Coming to my question:
I’ve done some good research on Nikon D40-300 series and some on Canon Rebel series DLSRs.
Somehow for reasons unknown to me, I’m not able to consider the brands like Olympus and Panasonic.

I’d like to know which one of the options below is good. Feel free to make modifications to any of these if that can give me better deal.

1. Investing on entry level D40 with a good set of lenses like 18-55 and 55-200 is sufficient (or)
2. Investing one time on a good amateur camera like D300 immediately (or)
3. Going for mid range like D90 with entry level lens (or)
4. Entry level Canon Rebel DSLR with default lens (or)
5. Any other suggestion from professionals like you.

I cannot invest more than 0 initially. But can stretch by another 0 if any one of you can convince me for a higher end model with some technical points.

Thanks in advance,
Indian

Camera dilemma: Canon 450d + Nikon d60?

i have been photographing a lot but have been using a compact all the while, i’m new to dslr but have tried using a borrowed slr before, so u can say i’m a beginner to a dslr, but for benefits in the long run should i go for an entry level camera or straight to the mid range? i’m expected to graduate (architecture field) next year so i’m not yet working, thus which is economical + is a better brand overall?
i heard the most important are the lenses, so one should not be spending a lot on the body, as well as that canon is the best option for indoors while nikon is best for outdoors photographing, so pls help me to decide which is the best investment for me on a camera?
many thanx in advance!

I’ve been shopping around for my first DSLR and it seems the best fits for my price range are the D60 and the D80. Used, it looks like I can find the D80 for about 0 more than the D60. I know the D60 is a more entry-level camera and the D80 is more mid-range, but I could use some clarification on what capabilities the D80 has beyond the D60 and whether, in your opinion, it’s worth the extra cost.

Thanks in advance for your help!

High end digital cameras keep getting larger sensors. Can these high end point & shoot cameras produce entry level dslr images? For example, can the Canon SX1IS match the Pentax K-X? I am only comparing the image quality, not zoom, video, ad audio features.
